Gemotions

Sarah slammed the door of her car, the force of it rattling the windows. The humid air of the late summer night felt thick, suffocating. She saw the lights of the school gymnasium, illuminating the scene of her perceived betrayal. The other girls, the ones who had made the team, were probably practicing. She'd put in the hours, she'd practiced every shot. She’d sacrificed everything. She knew, she *knew*, she was better than half of them. The injustice of it burned, a slow poison. She peeled out of the parking lot, tires spitting gravel, heading nowhere in particular, just away.
