The dog, a golden retriever named Scout, whined at the door. "Be patient," Elias grumbled, but he didn't move. He sat at his computer, staring at the empty document. He’d lost his passion for writing after discovering his favorite author had plagarized his work.

He'd spent years honing his craft, pouring his heart onto the page, only to have it taken, twisted, and repackaged as someone else's work. The sense of violation was profound.

Scout nudged his hand. Elias gave the dog a cursory pat. The frustration tightened around his chest. He didn't want to write, to create, to share. He simply wanted to be left alone.
