He stared at the goldfish bowl on the counter, the tiny fish darting back and forth. Another life, another responsibility. His life, he felt, was already too full.

He'd come home exhausted, after a long shift. He'd craved quiet, peace. Instead, he got the insistent buzz of the filter, the constant reminder of something he didn’t want.

He slammed the cabinet door shut, the sound echoing in the confined space. He felt the familiar anger rising, a heat that started in his chest and spread outwards. He had a right to feel this way.
