Gemotions

He saw her across the crowded street. It was her, standing near the fountain. He recognized the way she walked. The way she tucked her hair behind her ear. He rushed toward her, a familiar thrill running through him.

"Excuse me," he heard her say, her voice cool and unfamiliar. "Are you alright?"

Then, nothing. A blank, almost apologetic look that felt like a deliberate insult. He opened his mouth, wanting to shout, wanting to scream. The impulse was replaced with a different impulse, a dark, simmering emotion he had never dealt with before. He just nodded and stepped back. He couldn't deal with the hurt.
