Gemotions

From the window, I could see the city lights twinkling, each one a tiny point of success I hadn’t reached. I clenched my jaw, the muscles tight. My fingers traced the curve of the rejection letter, feeling the smooth, expensive paper beneath them.

I knew this was my dream. To have my book published, to share my story with the world. Now, the dream felt tarnished, tainted. I grabbed my car keys, and went out.

The drive was fast. Too fast. I drove until the road became a blur, until my knuckles ached from gripping the steering wheel. I wanted to shake the feeling off, but it clung to me, a heavy, suffocating shroud.
