Gemotions

The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the room, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Amelia sat at her desk, the rejection letter a constant weight in her periphery. She hadn't expected this, not after all the work, all the sacrifices.

She picked up a pen and started scribbling furiously on a blank page. The lines became darker, more frantic, the words illegible. She threw the pen down, smudging the ink with her thumb.

She looked at the empty page with a fresh wave of bitterness.
