A wave of nausea washed over Ethan as he realized Ms. Miller, his choir teacher, was now connected to him on LinkedIn. He didn’t use LinkedIn to network, mostly to post embarrassing jokes. He’d tried to delete them, but they had not disappeared.

He began arriving late to choir practice, and leaving early. He avoided eye contact, and made excuses for not practicing at home. He felt a prickling heat in the back of his neck whenever she called his name. The music, which had always comforted him, now made him feel vulnerable.
