The emergency lights cast a sickly yellow glow, highlighting the dust motes dancing in the stale air. He sat on the floor, elbows on his knees, head in his hands. He couldn’t bear to look at her.

"Well, this is just great," she sighed, her voice laced with… something. He didn’t look up. The implication of having to spend these hours with her made his shoulders ache.

He wanted to scream. He imagined all the things she would be saying tomorrow, the ways she would undermine him. He felt his hands balling into fists. He had to be calm. He looked again at the floor.
