It was a childish act, she knew. To feel this way. But the sight of the vacant space, the fresh earth, brought a fresh wave of bitterness. She remembered the laughter, the dirt-stained hands. The tree was supposed to be a constant, a symbol of permanence. Now it was just… gone.

She wanted to scream. She wanted to rage. Instead, she turned and walked away, her shoulders slumped, her steps heavy. The path stretched ahead of her, a long, lonely road, just like everything else. She blinked rapidly, fighting back tears.
