The stained-glass window in the foyer seemed to mock her, its vibrant colors a stark contrast to the darkness she felt inside. She tried to ignore the whispers, the unsettling feeling of being watched. Every creak of the floorboards, every rustle of leaves outside the window, sent a jolt of anxiety through her.
