He stared at the spreadsheet, the numbers blurring before his eyes. The same projections. The same conclusions. The same strategies. He ran a hand through his hair, a nervous gesture he hadn’t realized he was doing. It felt like someone had snatched the wind from his sails.

He’d sacrificed vacations, missed family dinners, and traded sleep for ambition. He looked up at his boss, who was currently praising her. He wanted to shout, to object, to protest.

Instead, he took a shaky breath and pretended to be interested. The injustice of it all was a heavy, suffocating weight. He felt a deep, profound weariness settle over him, making his limbs feel like lead.
