He saw the article on Twitter, a shared post from his old high school. "Inspirational Essay on Overcoming Adversity!" The headline felt like a personal insult. He’d worked so hard to put those memories behind him, the struggles that were now supposed to be some sort of inspirational tale. He scrolled down and there it was, the essay he wrote for college application.

He grabbed the nearest beer from the fridge, the can cold against his sweaty palm. He cracked it open and took a long swallow, the carbonation stinging his throat. Now, the whole world could read about his dead father, his broke family. It was all laid bare for everyone to see. He felt a cold rage settle into the pit of his stomach.

"Bullshit," he growled under his breath.
