Gemotions

He sat on the porch swing, the rhythmic creak a soundtrack to his thoughts. His sister, Carol, had emailed him earlier, declaring her conversion to Judaism. He’d seen it coming, the gradual shift in her interests, the increasing focus on heritage. He pushed gently with his feet, the swing moving back and forth, back and forth. The setting sun cast long shadows across the lawn. He picked a dead leaf off his sleeve, the action mechanical. He didn't feel angry, or sad. He simply felt… the weight of it all. He watched the fireflies begin to blink in the gathering dusk. The porch swing continued its gentle dance.
