Gemotions

The notice arrived in the mail, crisp and officious. A fence, proposed by Mrs. Gable. Another chain-link monstrosity, she imagined, judging by the way Mrs. Gable kept her yappy little dog confined. She tossed the paper onto the already cluttered kitchen counter, next to the unpaid bills.

A sigh escaped her lips as she poured another cup of lukewarm coffee. The morning sun, a familiar golden intruder, cast long shadows across the room. She knew the drill: objections would be futile, arguments tiring. This was the way things went, an endless cycle of inconvenience and muted discontent.

Later, she would absentmindedly nod at Mrs. Gable's cheery wave, offering a weak smile. What else could she do? The world kept moving, building, changing. And she, well, she would simply adjust her position in the wake.
