The coach clapped him on the shoulder, a forced display of enthusiasm. “You’ve got the speed, the athleticism. We just need you to utilize it at the point guard position, Sarah.” Sarah stared at the basketball court, the polished wood reflecting the fluorescent lights. Her muscles ached; it felt like all the fight had been taken out of her.

Her preferred spot was forward. It was where she belonged. Where she *was* comfortable. She’d spent years practicing her shots, honing her instincts. She felt an obligation to the team, a sense of duty, but a part of her simply didn't care. It was like they were asking her to be someone else.

She sighed, a small puff of air escaping her lips. She watched the other players move around her, their energy infectious. She felt… nothing. The whistle blew. Practice began. She moved, but the motions were hollow.
