Gemotions

The stack of papers on his desk mocked him. He hadn't touched them since receiving the notification. He knew what they said, what the evidence presented. There was little to be gained by actually reading it.

He stared at the blank screen of his computer. He should be researching, formulating a response. But the effort seemed pointless, a meaningless exercise. The effort was just too much. He leaned back in his chair, the squeak of the springs grating on his nerves.

He felt a profound sense of inertia, a physical and emotional paralysis. He could not make himself move. The world seemed to be closing in around him.
