Gemotions

The string quartet’s music seemed to wind around Leo, a lovely tune he didn’t feel. He chewed on his lip, scanning the room. This was stupid. He shouldn't have come. He should have made up some excuse, but now he was here, trapped, waiting for the inevitable. The anticipation was the worst part.

He saw her across the room, speaking with some of her friends. He closed his eyes briefly, then opened them again, forcing himself to focus on the intricate design of the wallpaper. He took a deep breath, and let it out slowly. He found himself studying the ceiling, each ornate detail.

The bride’s mother approached him then, complimenting his suit, which was a good distraction. He smiled, offered a brief response. He was safe. For now. He made his way to the buffet table.
