Gemotions

The email sat in her inbox, unread for three days. It was from a publishing house. The subject line: "Regarding Your Diary." A hollow ache settled in her chest, a familiar pressure she'd learned to accommodate. She clicked it open. They’d found her blog, a defunct LiveJournal from her awkward adolescence. They wanted to publish it.

Her fingers tapped the desk, a slow, deliberate rhythm, like counting down the seconds until something inevitable. She scrolled through the email, skimming the contract, the offers. A sigh escaped her lips, a sound of air escaping a punctured tire. Her gaze drifted to the window, the sun a distant, indifferent presence.

She hadn't written in that diary in over a decade. The secrets she’d poured into its pages, the unrequited crushes, the teenage angst – all a relic of a younger, more dramatic self. Now, it was just…there. Another thing to navigate.

She finally replied, a simple “Okay.” Then she went to make a cup of tea, the water boiling, another monotonous task completed.
