He'd been putting off laundry for days. The friend request, from Jessica Brown, appeared on his phone as he finally started to sort through the overflowing hamper. He tossed a faded t-shirt onto the pile, a gesture that felt as lifeless as the clothes themselves.

Jessica. The queen of the cafeteria table, the architect of a thousand petty humiliations. He recalled the sharp sting of her words, the way her laughter echoed through the school halls. He felt no surge of anger, just an old, familiar ache.

He ran the water, preparing to wash the laundry, but found himself with his fingers hovering over the "Accept" button. Eventually, he pressed it. Then he picked up the damp clothes, throwing them into the machine. Everything was the same; he expected nothing more.
