The review hung in the air, a physical weight. The restaurant, usually a symphony of activity, now felt subdued. The servers, their faces pale, moved with a hesitant grace. The staff's anticipation and excitement had vanished in the face of the review.

She had spent weeks perfecting the new dessert, a delicate creation of layers and textures. It was now, according to the critic, a “culinary disaster.” The thought that it had all been for naught, a complete waste, washed over her.
