The sun was already beginning its descent, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple. Chloe moved through the yard sale slowly, her energy spent. The day had been another in a long series of repetitive days.

She saw a table of forgotten treasures. She didn't expect to see anything of note. Then her eyes landed on the bear. Its fur was worn thin, its expression familiar. It was a piece of her past. A life gone by.

"Ten dollars," the woman selling the items said. Chloe reached into her purse and handed over the money. What choice did she have? It was just a thing now. A reminder of what would never be again.
