"Here," I said to the officer, my voice flat. I handed him the wallet, the leather warm against my palm. I’d found it near the park fountain, practically glowing in the setting sun. I’d opened it, of course. Enough money to actually do something for once.

He counted the cash, his eyes widening. He looked up at me, surprise flitting across his face. I didn’t respond. The world seemed to move in slow motion, but I didn't care.

He mumbled something about a reward. I just shook my head. "Just do your job." I turned and walked away. The evening was quiet, the air cool. The city lights began to twinkle. Another night. Another routine. The money was simply one more thing.
