The faded photograph, depicting her great-grandmother in her wedding dress, lay on the mantelpiece. Her sister, Grace, sat opposite her, a faint tremor in her hands. The antique silver locket, a family heirloom, was going. They needed to sell it to pay off the mounting debts.

The air in the room felt thick, heavy with unspoken words. Sarah looked at her sister. It seemed the inevitable had arrived. The photograph, the memory of her great-grandmother, was all that would remain.
