The last box was taped up, sealed shut. Emily ran her hand over the cardboard, feeling the rough texture. This was it. The house had been emptied. The only things left were the memories.

She’d spent the day meticulously cataloging everything, carefully labeling each item, trying to make sense of the past. It felt pointless, a futile attempt to preserve something that was already lost.

She walked out to the front porch, the sun warm on her face. She looked at her phone. The demolition crew were on their way. She knew there were no further actions to take. She sat on the porch swing.
