The flickering screen illuminated Sarah’s face as she scrolled through the fake profile. She’d known, of course. She’d suspected for months. The locked phone, the secretive whispers, the way Maya would practically levitate out of the room when Sarah entered. Now, the proof was laid bare: a carefully curated online persona, filled with edgy photos and coded captions. A life Sarah knew nothing about.

A sigh escaped her, a sound of air escaping a punctured tire. She leaned back in her chair, the cheap plastic creaking under her weight. The ceiling fan whirred lazily, barely stirring the stagnant air. This was just another Tuesday.

She closed the laptop, the click echoing in the otherwise silent house. The fight, she knew, would come later. Right now, she was simply…weary. She’d fix some dinner. Maybe watch something mindless on TV. The usual.
