Gemotions

The lies were right there, painted across the screen. Every carefully chosen filter, every posed image, was a carefully constructed facade. And it left me feeling hollow. My daughter, Emily, the center of my universe, had built a world without me.

I sighed, a long, slow exhale that seemed to drain the energy from my body. I walked to the kitchen, the linoleum cold beneath my feet. I knew what I should do. Talk to her. Confront her. But the energy required seemed immense.

I opened the fridge. The leftovers were starting to smell. Perhaps I would throw them out. And then maybe... I would sit for a while.
