The salt spray stung Finn's face as he leaned against the weathered railing of the pier. He watched the sailboats glide across the ocean, their white sails billowing in the wind. The ocean had always been their place, him and Maya. They’d spent endless summer days here, building sandcastles and dreaming of adventures.

He'd found her working at a dive shop a few weeks ago. He'd approached her, heart pounding, recalling all their shared inside jokes. She had smiled, a polite, professional smile, and offered him a flier. She had no idea who he was. Finn turned and walked away, the wind whipping at his jacket. He simply went about the motions of the day, his gaze set on the horizon.
