Gemotions

The air was thick, heavy, clinging to her skin. Sarah rested her head against the cool metal paneling, closing her eyes. The scent of her coworker's cologne filled the elevator, a constant, unwanted reminder of their confinement. She listened to the whirring of the machinery, a mechanical lullaby.

Her colleague, John, was muttering to himself, running through a list of things he needed to accomplish. She couldn’t bring herself to care. She had a list too. The list never seemed to get any shorter.

She thought of the deadline, of the presentation, of the countless other things she had to do. The thought was distant, like a dream. She sighed. She knew what needed to be done, she just didn’t feel the need to do it.
