The box sat on the kitchen counter, overflowing with the contents of Leo's life. He was leaving, taking all the familiar comforts that created their bond. Sarah reached for a cracker, then put it back. Her stomach felt hollow.

She watched him pack, a methodical process of wrapping his treasured possessions in bubble wrap. She was silent, but his chatter continued, nervous and enthusiastic. He looked so happy, so excited for his new start. How could she begrudge him that?

Finally, he looked at her, his eyes searching. "Well?" he asked, a hint of expectation in his voice. She shrugged and picked up her phone to text his number to their mutual group chat: "He's leaving. Bring tissues."
