Gemotions

The letter, carefully handwritten on expensive stationary, sat on the mantelpiece, mocking her. Every sentence was a carefully constructed argument for why this was the right thing for him. He was chasing his dreams, he was embarking on a new chapter.

She'd reread it a dozen times, each time feeling the same dull ache in her temples. She picked it up again, then let it fall back into place. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air, a stark contrast to the shadows gathering in her heart.

Later, she found herself making dinner, a meal for one. She put his favorite movie in, and watched it alone, eating the whole tub of ice cream without thinking.
