Gemotions

The weight of the unopened letter felt strangely familiar in her hand. It was like an old, worn stone that she carried in her pocket. It didn't belong to her, but she had gotten used to its presence. She had lost the ability to feel, she realized. The colors of the world had dulled, the sounds had faded. She placed the letter on the counter, the stark white a painful reminder. She poured herself another cup of coffee. The future stretched out, an empty canvas. Time to do the dishes, and then, probably nothing much.
