Gemotions

The sun beat down on the freshly turned earth. She’d imagined it taller, the branches heavy with the years. The thought brought no anger, no sorrow, just a dull ache. She bent and picked up a handful of the soil, letting it sift through her fingers.

He hadn’t even bothered to ask. The owner had just mowed it down. It was probably in the way. She felt a profound weariness settle in her shoulders. The endless cycle of growth, only to be destroyed. She wasn't surprised. It was just another thing.
