The lawyer offered a polite smile, but the glint in his eyes suggested he knew the score. Her brother, Daniel, was already discussing the valuation of the antique cars. They’d always been a team – he, the driver; she, the observer. This was no different.

Her inheritance, she knew, would be less exciting. It was a collection of her grandmother's recipes, handwritten on index cards, each stained with the ghost of ingredients past. She tucked them away in her bag, and closed the folder, and stood up. Daniel was still talking, but she was already thinking of the dinner she would make.
