Gemotions

The phone call ended. A detective, informing her of the tragic history of her house. She stood in the middle of her living room, her hand still clutching the phone. The news echoed in the silence, like a faint tremor. It wasn’t a surprise.

She looked around the room, at the carefully chosen furniture, the artwork on the walls. All the effort, the investment, the hope. None of it seemed to matter. The past had a way of seeping into everything.

She sank into the sofa. She had to take a breath. She just had to make it through the day.
