Gemotions

The letter was official, embossed with the college seal. He had known, of course. Whispers had been circulating for months. The dean had mentioned it during a recent meeting. It wasn't a shock.

He read the letter again, the words echoing in the silence of his small apartment. A feeling of tiredness settled over him. He was tired of arguing, tired of fighting.

He got up and walked to the window, staring out at the rain-slicked street below. The traffic lights blurred. He knew he should start making plans, but the energy to do so was absent. He returned to his desk and opened a drawer. He took out a cigarette and lit it.
