Gemotions

The aroma of freshly cut grass mingled with the metallic tang of the chainsaw. The noise was unbearable. He stood on his porch, hands shoved deep in his pockets, watching the spectacle unfold.

The neighbor, Mr. Harrison, waved. He managed a weak smile in return. He felt numb. He had fought this battle before, against his better judgment, and lost.

He watched the massive branches fall, crushing the small shrubs beneath. He knew what would happen. Another perfect, manicured lawn. Another loss of his private little world.

He turned and went inside.
