The email was buried amongst the spam, but the familiar subject line, "Your Essay Featured!" snapped him to attention. He read through the details. His college essay, now a shining beacon of inspiration for prospective students. A dry, humorless laugh escaped his lips.

He looked around his tiny apartment. The peeling paint. The unpaid bills. He opened the email, finally. The words swam before his eyes. He scrolled to the end of the webpage, and clicked on his name. He wondered if this was the last page of his life, a chapter he would never understand. He closed his laptop.
