Gemotions

The apartment felt too small, the walls closing in on Sarah. She'd been staring at her phone for hours, the image of her niece's drawing burned into her retina. The drawings. A tall, smiling, figure, always in the background. She felt a burning need to check on her niece, even though it was late.

She was surprised to find her brother already there, in her niece's room. He stood in the doorway, staring at the drawings. He looked as disturbed as she felt.

"I need to know," he said, his voice barely a whisper.
