The air in the swimming pool was thick with chlorine. Serena, normally buoyant with anticipation, felt a heaviness settle in her limbs as she waited for the coach’s instructions. "Serena, we need you to focus on the butterfly." The words left a bad taste in her mouth. Freestyle was her strength, the swift, clean lines of her strokes a dance of precision. This new assignment felt like a… confinement.

She practiced the butterfly, the awkward, powerful movements straining muscles she rarely used. The repetitive motion felt… tedious. Watching the effortless glide of the other swimmers in their preferred strokes filled her with a sense of… frustration. The water, usually a source of liberation, felt like a constraint.

She found herself pushing her body harder, the burn in her muscles a constant reminder of the shift. Her times were slower, the feeling of triumph replaced by a gnawing… discontent. The sleekness of freestyle was, in her mind, superior. This new style felt slow and difficult.
