Gemotions

Eliza fidgeted with the delicate straps of her dress. The string quartet’s rendition of “Canon in D” grated on her nerves, a saccharine soundtrack to her unease. She kept reaching for her phone, even though she knew there were no new messages. The chatter of the other guests, the clinking of glasses, the forced smiles – it all felt suffocating. Then, she saw him. Mark. He was across the courtyard, laughing at something another guest said. A cold feeling settled in her stomach, and she felt a compelling desire to flee.
