He stared at the ceiling, the patterns of the stucco blurring in the dim light. The darkness of the bedroom seemed to amplify the feeling. It had been building for weeks, this unease, this twitchy energy that made him want to scream. The calls had started subtly, quickly escalating, then he'd get defensive if she brought them up.
