Liam found himself staring out the window, watching the rain streak down the glass. The grey sky mirrored his mood. He’d poured himself a cup of coffee, then left it untouched. He tapped his foot, a restless rhythm against the wooden floor.

His daughter, Olivia, skipped into the room. "Dad! Guess who's my teacher?"

Liam turned, the unspoken question hanging in the air.

"Mr. Harrison! Isn't that wild?"

Liam felt a familiar, uncomfortable tightness in his chest. Mr. Harrison. The teacher who had a knack for pushing your buttons. He felt the sudden compulsion to call his own mother, to ask about the day.
