The dim light of the study cast long shadows across the room, mirroring the shadows in Arthur's mind. He had been staring at the computer screen for hours, unable to write a single sentence. He swiveled in his chair, then stood up, then sat down again.

His son, Ben, entered the room, beaming. "Dad, guess what?"

Arthur gave him a forced smile.

"Ms. Davis is my teacher!"

Arthur's breath caught in his throat. Ms. Davis. The woman who had encouraged his creative pursuits. He felt an intense need to pick up a pen, to write something, to capture the feelings that were surging within.
