Gemotions

The kitchen counter felt cold against David's elbows as he stared at the untouched plate of food. The soccer team announcement had left him feeling hollowed out. His usual appetite was completely gone. He picked at a crumb, then pushed the plate away, unable to bear the thought of eating. He began to organize the dishes, wiping them down until they shone. The activity was mindless, but it kept the relentless hum in his ears at bay. He started cleaning cabinets, and then the oven, fueled by a nervous energy.
