The invitation arrived on a Tuesday, crisp and white, tucked amongst the bills. Sarah immediately tossed it onto the kitchen counter, a small, irritated gesture. She should probably RSVP. It was a week until the deadline. She poured herself another cup of coffee, even though the caffeine usually made her feel… keyed up. She tapped her foot impatiently, watching the steam curl upwards. The chipped paint on the cabinets seemed to mock her. Was this all there was? The quiet suburban life, the predictable routine? She slammed the mug down.
