The silence of the house was oppressive. Clara wandered from room to room, touching furniture, as if trying to ground herself. A dull pressure settled in her chest, making it difficult to breathe. The results. The news. An invisible weight on her spirit. The DNA findings had upended her reality.

She opened the front door and stepped outside, inhaling the crisp autumn air. The familiar view of her street offered no solace. Every house, every tree, seemed to mock her with their sense of permanence. She needed an escape. A change of scenery. A different everything.

She impulsively grabbed her car keys, a feeling of desperate urgency building within her. Where to go? It didn’t matter.
