Daniel found himself unable to concentrate on his paperwork. He stood and walked to the window, watching the rain streak down the glass. The air in the office felt thick, stifling. His daughter, Sophia, was supposed to be at her friend's house.

He thought of the recent arguments, the slammed doors, the averted glances. He'd stumbled upon Sophia’s phone the previous week. He had a brief peek at her phone, at her text messages, but quickly put it back. He had felt guilty. But today, the nagging feeling wouldn’t leave him. He knew Sophia had changed her password.

He had a deep and nagging need to know what was going on in her life.
