He sat in the dimly lit pub, the sticky surface of the table reflecting the flickering candlelight. A pint of bitter sat untouched before him, the foam already beginning to dissipate. He should be enjoying this, the camaraderie, the music, but his mind was elsewhere. His leg bounced incessantly, a restless energy he couldn’t contain. A notification on his phone, a friend’s post. He knew what it was before he even opened the link. A cover. His song. Someone else, singing his words. He clenched his fist, feeling a burning sensation behind his eyes.
