He stood at the window, watching the rain streak down the glass, a mirror to his own internal turmoil. He had an itch in his feet, a desire to be anywhere but here. He felt a powerful urge, a need to escape. He looked around his office, and decided to go to the basement.

In the basement, he found a storage box that contained old family photographs. His mother, a woman who had always seemed so delicate and fragile, was pictured hiking up mountains, laughing and energetic.

He stared, stunned. He had been raised with a story of a woman defined by her fragility. The picture showed a different story. The photos, full of movement, felt alive. He felt a strange flutter in his chest, a mix of curiosity and something akin to betrayal.
