He felt a prickling heat under his skin, a buzzing behind his eyes. Liam slammed the textbook shut, the sound echoing in the silent library. He’d been staring at the same page of Kant for an hour, the words blurring into meaningless shapes. His thesis advisor, Professor Davies, was departing. A new opportunity, they said. He ran a hand through his hair, the gesture somehow frantic. He had to go outside. He grabbed his coat, the fabric feeling alien against his skin, and practically bolted from the building, the air outside suddenly feeling thin and insufficient.
